Day 4
Written by Belicia Ko^^
The fourth day was the last day of the camp. All of us dreaded this day. Camp has been a awesome experience for us. However, EFL could have never been better. All of us woke up as early as 0630 so that we can have enough time to pack up. As we had not finished packing the previous day, we were all rushing to pack our baggage. While Fu Rong was packing her stuff, a cockroach, I emphasize, a cockroach appeared. We were all screaming and running about. Cheryl, Clareen, Racher and I hid in the toilet for a while. The cockroach disappeared soon after and everyone was relieved. We returned to our rooms to do a final check on whether if we left anything behind.
Dragging our heavy luggages, we gathered at the canteen in our different groups while waiting for our instructors respectively. Instructor Alan was wearing his favourite colours, black and yellow. While waiting for breakfast to be ready, we were playing the game Concentration with Alan and his facial expression was "epic". We had so much fun during the camp, it was definitely worth our time. Although we were all smiles and laughters, deep inside we were not willing to leave behind the precious memories. Breakfast was finally being served, when we saw that our breakfast was just scrambled eggs with 2 slices of bread with butter, we were kind of disappointed as we expected something better since it was our last meal at the camp. After breakfast, we carried our bags and walked to the conference room and left it there.Following after, Rachel went to return the key to Mrs Leong.
We had a camp debrief and everyone was sad to leave. We lined up in our bumboat groups and walked towards the jetty. I noticed that many of us were tearing up while waiting for the bumboats including myself. Many of us did not want this wonderful camp to end because we all had a fantastic time together. We had a mini gathering for Cheryl and my group. Our instructor's touching farewell has moved us to tears. Before boarding the bumboat, Rachel and Racher's group took pictures with their instructors, Sugan and Hambali.
On the way back to Mainland, Singapore, we were crying silently. We kept thinking and reflecting on the wonderful experience we had during camp.
When we arrived at the Jetty in Singapore, the buses were already waiting for us. We bid our intructors a final goodbye before boarding the buses. The ride back to school was an awkward one as many of us were crying.
The moment we got out of the bus, we strolled down the lane in silence as sadness consume us while some of us gave long hugs to our friends and bade farewell because after that day, it was the holiday. Such an experience was an unforgettable memory and it will be etched in my mind for as this trip is filled with many emotions which we have never felt before. It feels like we have lost a friend and gain a best friend as the trip has brought the whole class closer together for the first time, we spoke to someone we were not familiar with. Perhaps that was why EFL was the highlight in our school, for they have brought many people who did not know each other together. This was an excellent camp and every one of us are glad we can go for another camp in secondary 4 which will be the time when we leave, to go on our own separate paths. Contacts will be gone, and we might lose touch with one another. But the memories of our trips and adventures together will never be forgotten.
Yes, we were that close. The student would think that way, that we were that close. So to prolong this spirit and carry on this legacy which EFL camps have brought about, water pollution must be prevented within your abilities and if everyone plays a part in keeping our water sources clean, this trip will never have to end.
Secondary Three Education For Life camp was the best camp any of us could ask for.

Day 1
Written by Cheryl Sim:)
On 7th March 2012, the day everyone was waiting for was finally here! It was the first day of our EFL camp. All of us woke up early in morning and did our last check for unpacked items before heading to school.
The school hall, our assembly area, was packed with secondary 3 students happily chatting and all excited for the camp. We waited for what seems like ages before our Principal finally came up the stage with a microphone to give a speech followed by a prayer before sending us off. As our form teacher, Mr. Mano was the teacher-in-charge for EFL (Education For Life) program, our class was the last to leave the hall, as we bade farewell to the empty hall.
Unfortunately, our bus came 30 minutes late. Due to the fact that we were the last class to to move off even though our class was the first to submit the forms, our bus was old and small. Everyone were full of complaints when they saw the bus. The whole bus was packed like sardines! Some of our classmates had to take 3 people to a seat, squeezing together putting our bulky luggages in the middle lane of the bus. Halfway through the uncomfortable journey, some of our classmates seated at the back started screaming. Apparently, the air-condition at the back of the bus was leaking on them. The cold, dirty water dripping on them had caused so much of a commotion, that they had stuffed tissue paper into the gaps of the air-condition. Talk about being funny!
After the long, uncomfortable (and wet for some of us') bus ride, we finally arrived at Christ Church Secondary School to do our high elements. Upon reaching, we hurriedly grab our water bottles, threw our heavy belongings into a small storage room, and settled down into our respective classes. We had a safety briefing and were taught how to put on our helmets and safety gears. Our class was then split into three groups due to the size. The high elements were enjoyable and exciting to most of us. Some of us even managed to overcome their fear of heights with the encouragement from their peers. [pictures]
Shortly after, we broke for lunch at the school's canteen to replenish our bodies which was deprived of energy. Our lunch was simple dish of rice, chicken wings, vegetables and cream puffs for dessert. Sadly, not everyone had the cream puffs as the amount was minimal. Our friends were surprisingly chatty even after the tiring climb but well, what's a camp without bonding? :-) [picture]
After our lunch, we went on to rock climbing [picture] . Many of us were just sitting around chatting while waiting for their turn to climb. Most of us did not manage to reach the top as we did not have the strength to or did not know which rock to step on! Most steps were either too small, or really slippery. Despite the many warnings from our belayer, we still slipped and and got suspented in mid-air. Many of our hands were sore and painful after climbing. Around 4:30pm, we left the secondary school and took a bus to Changi Jetty, where we made our way to a bumboat that 's to Pulau Ubin from mainland Singapore. Luckily, our bus was bigger and more spacious this time with a storage space for our luggages below. The whole bus was engulfed in talks and laughers as different people who came from other classes comes together as one to get to know each other as the classmates that they are going to be for the next two years.
We arrived at the beautiful resort in Pulau Ubin after the fascinating bumboat ride which was a very interesting experience for us. [picture] Our teachers then gave the leaders (a group of six were chosen to share a chalet) the key to our chalet so that we can wash up after the long and tiring day for dinner! Rushing up, we explored the whole of our chalet and there was only one word to describe it - Amazing! We then went to the canteen to wait for our dinner after we washed up.
I remembered that we had to do a "Makan Cheer" in order to have our dinner. In the end, the whole canteen was in big chaos as we were not synchronized at all. Talk about unity! The instructors then had a hard time getting us to lower our volume. After our dinner, we were given a debrief and what to expect for the next day and were told to call our parents to inform them of our current situations and destination. We went back to our Chalet to washed up, and drifted into dreamland slowly and unknowingly after a small chat :)

On the 9th of March 2012, the third day of our EFL in Pulau Ubin, we woke up at 6am in the morning as we had been scolded the day before for being late and going to the ''canteen'' (Hornbill Restaurant) past 7am. We then got changed for our activity that day, Orienteering, which required us to wear our trek pants. Our class had also decided to wear our class t-shirt for that day.
We locked up the chalet and made our way to the "canteen", and waited for the rest of the classes to arrive.
When the rest of the classes arrived, we then went to get our breakfast, which was kway tiao and hot chocolate. After we had finished our breakfast, we applied sunblock lotion on our arms and our face, and insect repellant on our arms and our legs, as we did not want to risk getting mosquito bites on our legs, even when they were covered by our trek pants. We then set off for our activity that day, Orienteering. Belicia, Cheryl, Fu Rong and Clareen were in the group A7, while Racher and I (Rachel) were in the other group A2, so we then bade goodbye and parted ways.
Using the map that our instructor, Sugan, was given, we made our way to our first stop, Jalan Durian.
